Flowers!

July 2023 proved to be a shockingly beautiful month for an unbelievable range of flowering herbs, wildflowers and various other annuals and perennials.

The polytunnel, various veg beds and of course the forest garden area all burst into bloom – possibly for the the first time on such a scale ever in the history of the walled garden.

Nasturtium, vetch, lupin, loosestrifes, chamomiles, comfrey, california poppy, lavender, coriander, marigold, brassicas, borage, sunflowers, corncokle, forget me not, cornflower, calendula, corn marigold, dill, snapdragon, viola
– just some of the flowers in bloom.

Many of the flowers are edible, though there are some important exceptions.

Of course, the resident weeds also emerged – initially more as companion plants, then with some extra vigour (particularly the buttercup) which will need some monitoring next season.
