PDC Edinburgh with Nonstuff

I began my Permaculture design course two days ago – hosted by Nonstuff industries at the lovely Montessori Arts School on the semi rural outskirts of south Edinburgh.

Montessori Arts School

We covered a huge amount over the weekend – from looking closely at certain plants, to defining permaculture itself; its originators, ethics, basic design principles, using games as a means to explore principles, looking around the site at growing projects and habitats, and much more.

Needless to say, my mind is buzzing from this glut of information, and I feel, perhaps after a prior feeling of slight hesitation, fully signed up now to the cause of learning all about this wonderful and essential subject, and applying it as much as I can to the Bamff Garden project.

It’s a strange place to be; full of excitement about future visions, but not quite able to implement them fully. Another stop, however, on my journey through education will be finally learning how to deal with wood, so I can construct imaginative and practical DIY structures using existing materials found in the garden, and elsewhere around Bamff. For this I shall turn to our local expert and educator Dick Craig at the Scottish Woodland Skills Centre.
